Micro Shogi

Micro Shogi is played on a 4x5 board with five pieces per side: King, Gold, Silver, Bishop, and Pawn.

Pieces

  • K King: one square in any direction.
  • G Gold: orthogonal plus forward diagonals. Promoted face R moves as a rook.
  • S Silver: forward plus diagonals. Promoted face L moves as a lance.
  • B Bishop: diagonal slider. Promoted face T moves as a gold.
  • P Pawn: one square forward. Promoted face N moves as a shogi knight.

Capture flip

There is no promotion zone. A non-king piece flips to its opposite face whenever it captures, and flips back on its next capture.

Drops

Captured non-king pieces enter the capturer's hand. A hand piece can be dropped on any empty square with either face up. There is no nifu, pawn-drop mate ban, or last-rank ban.

Terminal rule

The research solver models checkmate by king capture. A move that captures the opposing king ends the game in this viewer.
